Halton Regional Police report that an eight-year-old girl has died after being hit by a car while walking in Oakville.
Authorities were alerted Thursday afternoon about a serious vehicle collision on North Service Road West, just west of Lindsay Drive, where two pedestrians were involved.
The Halton Regional Police Service stated that a man driving a Lexus SUV veered off the road on the north side and struck both a 39-year-old woman and her eight-year-old daughter.
Both victims were rushed to a nearby hospital and then transferred to trauma centers, but unfortunately, despite efforts to save her life, the girl passed away from her injuries.
The 47-year-old driver from Oakville has since been arrested and charged with dangerous operation of a conveyance causing death.
The Collision Reconstruction Unit is now leading the investigation, and police are urging anyone with information regarding the incident to reach out to them.
