Durham Region is back in the news as three teenagers – aged 17, 15, and 14 – were arrested this week for their involvement in four armed robberies that took place between February 20 and March 7.
The suspects targeted three businesses: Pizza Pizza in Pickering (twice), B Boyz Burger in Pickering, and Little Caesars in Whitby. Two of the suspects were involved in the Pizza Pizza incidents, while a single suspect was responsible for robbing B Boyz and Little Caesars, threatening staff with a knife to steal cash from the registers. The Auto Robbery Crime Unit began Project Burke to track down those involved.
On Tuesday, March 24, authorities found the first suspect at a high school in Pickering and took him into custody. Later that night, they arrested the other two suspects.
The 17-year-old from Pickering faces four counts of robbery, four counts of wearing a disguise with intent, four counts of possession of stolen property under $5,000, one count of possession of stolen property over $5,000, conspiracy to commit an indictable offence, and trafficking in stolen property.
The 15-year-old is charged with robbery, conspiracy to commit an indictable offence, and possession of stolen property. The 14-year-old is charged with robbery and conspiracy as well. Both younger boys are from Whitby.
All three are being held pending a bail hearing.

This week also saw two teens facing charges for using counterfeit money to obtain real cash at pet supply stores located in Ajax and Whitby.
