A tragic house fire in Port Elgin has resulted in the death of a man.

Saugeen Shores police and firefighters responded to the blaze at around 11:30 a. m. on Thursday. Fire crews quickly put out the flames and discovered a man inside who had no vital signs.

The man was declared dead at the scene, according to police. His identity and age have not been disclosed.

Local law enforcement and firefighters are working together with the Office of the Ontario Fire Marshal and the Chief Coroner of Ontario to investigate what caused the fire and the man’s death.

Investigators are expected to return to the site on Friday.
