The Special Investigations Unit (SIU) stated that police divers recovered a body from the submerged vehicle in Lake Ontario Wednesday night after it had crashed following an attempted traffic stop.

The identity of the deceased has not been disclosed.

The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) mentioned that an officer tried to pull over a driver on Bath Road in Loyalist Township, located west of Kingston around 10:55 p. m. Tuesday night.

A short while later, the vehicle went off into the ditch and sank into the lake.

A number of police units along with search-and-rescue teams from Canadian Forces Base Trenton participated in the operation, which resulted in road closures on Wednesday. OPP officials indicated they were unsure how many individuals were inside the vehicle when it went under.

The SIU is conducting an investigation into OPP’s actions due to the fact that this crash occurred during an attempted traffic stop. One aspect of its responsibility is looking into police involvement related to deaths.

This incident took place near County Road 21 as it transitions into Highway 33, which is also referred to as Loyalist Parkway.
