Ontario’s police oversight agency has stepped in after a male motorcyclist suffered serious injuries during an encounter with York Regional Police in a Vaughan neighborhood late Sunday night.
Officers responded to Purcell Crescent around 10 p. m. for what they described as an ongoing situation involving a male. According to the police, there was an interaction between officers and the man, who was on his motorcycle at that time. The man was later taken to a trauma center with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.
The Special Investigations Unit (SIU) – which looks into incidents involving police that lead to serious injury, death, or claims of sexual assault – has taken charge of the case.
Due to this, York Regional Police (YRP) have not revealed the man’s age, the details of the interaction, or what prompted the emergency response.
Police mentioned that Purcell Crescent will be closed while the SIU investigation is ongoing. Officers are advising residents to steer clear of the area and anticipate a continued police presence overnight and into Monday.
