On January 9, around 11 p. m., officers arrived at the scene of a collision at the intersection of Hurontario Street and Elm Drive, which involved a black Hyundai Elantra and a black Range Rover Evoque. Witnesses indicated that the driver of the Range Rover ran away from the crash site on foot.
The Air Support Unit quickly responded and was able to track the suspect in the vicinity of the accident. They observed him throwing away bags while trying to hide from police. With help from the Canine Unit and CIB, officers apprehended the suspect after a short chase on foot.
The abandoned bags contained large amounts of drugs believed to be fentanyl, cocaine, and methamphetamine with an estimated street value of $200,000. While he was in custody, investigators executed a search warrant at his residence in Mississauga and found more methamphetamine as well as cash.
As a result, 23-year-old Nitin Malik is facing several charges under the criminal code:
Failure to stop after accident Fail to comply with release order Possession for the purpose – Schedule I cocaine Possession for the purpose – Schedule I methamphetamines Possession for the purpose – opioid
