The City of Kingston’s public works department is asking local residents to be patient as they work to clear away snow from a major snowstorm that hit the region on Sunday night and led to the closure of most regional schools and many area businesses.

The city declared a significant weather event as Sunday’s storm started and continued into Monday, dropping large amounts of snow across the area.

Environment Canada had issued a yellow-level snowfall warning before this event but hasn’t confirmed how much snow actually fell since Sunday afternoon.
The Weather Channel mentioned that around 15 cm of snowfall occurred in Kingston between Sunday and Monday afternoon; however, Karen Santucci, director of public works for the city said her team estimates some areas received up to 40 cm.
“They were calling for around 25, and we got more than we had anticipated,” Santucci told The Whig-Standard on Monday afternoon.
