Ronald (Ron, Ronnie) Canada, age 71, from Charleston, WV, passed away on Tuesday, May 20, 2025, after a brave fight against cancer. Surrounded by his family, Ron faced his illness with incredible strength, grace, and unyielding hope-qualities that truly defined him.
Born on November 20, 1953, in Oak Hill, WV, he was the son of Thomas and Mabel Canada. After finishing Collins High School in Oak Hill, WV, he worked for Elkem Metals and Union Carbide in Alloy, WV. Following a brief stay in Racine, WI, Ron returned to Oak Hill and later worked at Wesley Youth Center before joining Canterbury Construction.

He is survived by his sons Carlos Cosby of Whipple, WV and Ta’hari Canada of Charleston; daughters Mya (Little) Thomas of Charleston and Zo’livia Canada of Charleston; along with 15 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. He also leaves behind his special partner Karen Sizemore; brothers Thomas (Margaret) Canada of Cleveland OH; Anthony (Colleen) Canada of Harlem Heights WV; Michael (Rosetta) Canada of Whipple WV; sisters Gwendolyn (Michael) Adams of Cleveland OH; Adelia (Randy) Heflin of Phoenix AZ; plus many nieces, nephews cousins and friends who will miss his loving spirit.
A philosopher at heart with a knack for many things-he could build a house one minute and whip up cinnamon rolls from scratch the next. He had an undeniable talent for making pancakes and waffles like no one else! Ron loved the Lord deeply. He enjoyed gospel music along with African rhythms and relished time spent outdoors or taking nature walks. Most importantly though was the joy he found in being with his loved ones.
As an incredible “Dad” and “Pawpaw,” his impact will live on through all the lives he touched and the cherished memories he’ll leave behind.
