WASAGA BEACH – In front of a packed audience, the Town of Wasaga Beach has presented the initial draft 10- and 20-year vision and concept designs for Destination Wasaga-marking an important step in revitalizing one of Canada’s and Ontario’s most famous beach areas.
This key moment kicks off the second phase of public engagement, bringing together the community and province to move closer to achieving a bold, collective vision for a year-round destination that harmonizes nature, tourism, and local life.
A Vision Centered on Community Values
The draft Destination Wasaga Master plan mirrors clear priorities from residents:
The beach stays public-always: The shoreline will be safeguarded as a communal space for everyone to enjoy. No housing development on transferred parkland: Provincial parkland returned to the Town will focus on tourism, destination growth, attractions, public infrastructure, public uses, and green spaces. A strong dedication to nature and sustainability: Increased green spaces, ecological conservation, and nature-based experiences are at the heart of this plan. A well-rounded year-round destination: The Destination Wasaga Master Plan aims to boost the local economy, draw visitors throughout the year, and preserve the natural beauty that makes Wasaga Beach special. Highlights
The draft plan suggests lively gathering spots, adaptable parks and event venues for every season, accessible boardwalks, a river marina, an outstanding music hall (The Dard 2.0), and a striking pedestrian bridge-all designed to bring people closer to water, nature, and each other.
The new renderings depict a downtown area and beachfront that feel both timeless and forward-thinking with:
Three signature corridors planned to connect the waterfront with downtown areas, Nancy Island, and provincial parkland-to seamlessly link these aspects together for an extraordinary experience for both residents and visitors.
Community Input – Including Kids!
The draft Destination Wasaga Master Plan is based on extensive public input that began in November 2025. More than 500 locals-including residents and business owners-shared their thoughts during meetings, workshops, and online surveys.
Earlier this month, this engagement reached local classrooms where over 200 Grade 6 and Grade 7 students from across Wasaga Beach voiced their ideas about the future of their community’s beachfronts. Their feedback underscored key priorities-from environmental protection to attracting family-friendly businesses. Students highlighted how crucial it is to create a place that future generations can be proud of.
This collective feedback is shaping a plan that truly addresses what local residents need while reflecting the dreams of our youngest community members.
What’s Next?
Public engagement continues April 8-9 with workshops, stakeholder discussions , and an online survey giving locals more chances to review concepts and provide feedback. This final round of input will help refine the plan in alignment with upcoming infrastructure projects as well as provincial and federal goals.
The final Destination Wasaga plan is expected to be finalized by July.
