As a winter storm moves through southern Ontario, bringing heavy snowfall and poor visibility, several major highway closures were reported in Mississauga and Hamilton on Sunday afternoon.
Ontario 511 shared on X (formerly Twitter) that an accident on Highway 6 northbound between Upper James Street and Airport Road/Butter Road in Hamilton caused lane closures.
A second accident was noted on Highway 6 southbound between Airport Road/Butter Road and Upper James Street in Hamilton, which also led to lane closures.
In Mississauga, Ontario 511 indicated there was a collision at the QEW Fort Erie-bound on-ramp at Erin Mills Parkway and Southdown Road, resulting in all lanes being closed.
The incidents occurred during hazardous winter driving conditions across the area, including blowing snow and icy road surfaces.
Ontario 511 later confirmed that all accidents had been cleared by 2 p. m. Sunday.
Drivers are urged to stay cautious and allow extra time for travel as the winter storm continues.
