Canada’s top goalie for the men’s national soccer team has just secured his first title as the 2025 Major League Soccer Goalkeeper of the Year.

Dayne St. Clair – hailing from Pickering, Ontario – was recognized as the league’s best goalkeeper after a standout season where he achieved ten shutouts and allowed only 30 goals in 30 matches for Minnesota United, who are aiming for victory tonight against Atlanta in the opening round of the MLS playoffs.

St. Clair is now the second Canadian to receive this honor, following Pat Onstad who won it in 2003 with San Jose and again in 2005 with Houston.

As he competes with Maxime Crepeau for the starting goalie spot leading up to next year’s World Cup, St. Clair surpassed New York City FC’s Matt Freese and Vancouver Whitecaps’ Yohei Takaoka, taking home 29.4 percent of the vote.

When informed on his team’s charter about winning this award, St. Clair expressed gratitude towards his teammates, stating that an effective defense begins with “everyone in front of me playing great.”

The Canadian team kicks off its World Cup journey on June 12 in Toronto.
