Maple Leaf Sports and Entertainment has made the decision to part ways with Toronto Maple Leafs General Manager Brad Treliving.

Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment president Keith Pelley announced this unexpected change in a news release on Monday night just before Toronto played against Anaheim.

“Throughout the course of this season, there has been deep analysis into both the current state of the Maple Leafs organization and the direction needed to achieve the ultimate goal of delivering a Stanley Cup championship to the city,” Pelley said in the release.

“Brad Treliving is a man that we all have deep respect and appreciation for, both as a hockey executive and as a person, but it was determined that the club must chart a new course under different leadership. The organization is grateful for all that Brad has contributed in his nearly three years with the Maple Leafs and we wish him and his family the very best.”

Treliving was hired as general manager of the Maple Leafs on May 31, 2023, replacing Kyle Dubas.

Treliving was named general manager of the Maple Leafs in May 2023 and during that time, the team has put together a record of 139 – 92 – 27, which includes a playoff record of 10-10 along with a first round series win over the Ottawa Senators, according to MLSE.

He joined after spending nine seasons as GM of the Calgary Flames, where he had a record of 362-265-73 but only advanced past the first round of playoffs twice.

Before that, he spent seven seasons with the Arizona Coyotes as vice-president of hockey operations and assistant general manager.

It’s unclear what moving on from Treliving means for coach Craig Berube’s future.

The Leafs are close to being eliminated from playoff contention.
