Huron Perth Public Health (HPPH) is urging everyone to help stop the spread of respiratory illnesses during this holiday season.
The community is reminded of some easy steps we can all take to reduce the spread of COVID-19, influenza, and respiratory syncytial virus (RSV).
To help prevent illness, it’s important to stay updated on your vaccinations, wash your hands frequently, and stay home if you’re feeling unwell.
You should also cover your coughs and sneezes, wear a mask when necessary, clean and disinfect commonly touched surfaces and items, and improve ventilation indoors.
“As more gatherings take place leading into the holiday season, it’s vital to take precautions to limit the spread of respiratory illnesses,” said Dr. Miriam Klassen, Medical Officer of Health at HPPH. “The best way to protect yourself, your family and the community is with immunization. Additionally, stay home when sick and avoid visiting those who might be at greater risk for severe illness due to respiratory viruses, especially in hospitals and long-term care homes.”
