The man who was fatally shot in Renfrew during the Victoria Day long weekend had a difficult few months leading up to his death, according to court records.

Jonathan Logan, 41, died in a “targeted” shooting on May 19, as reported by Ontario Provincial Police (OPP).

Prior to that incident, Renfrew court documents obtained by reveal that Logan faced three arrests between April and May.

On April 9, he was charged with theft of a motor vehicle after allegedly stealing a black 2013 Chevrolet Cruze.

He also faced one charge for possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000 and another for possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000. Logan was arrested that same day but later released on bail.

Just under two weeks later, Logan was arrested again and charged with two counts of unlawfully possessing drugs: one for allegedly having fentanyl and the other for cocaine. He was additionally charged for not complying with a release order.

Finally, just two days before his death, he faced charges for possession of a prohibited device or ammunition after reportedly having pepper spray without a license.

He was also charged with three counts of possession of a firearm or ammunition contrary to a prohibition order and two counts of failing to comply with a release order. Moreover, Logan was charged with unlawfully possessing drugs due to allegedly carrying methamphetamine. He was arrested again but released on bail shortly after.

None of these charges against Logan had been proven in court.

Family ‘devastated’

According to an earlier press release from OPP, police were called to a residence on Vimy Boulevard just before 10:30 p. m.

Upon arrival, officers found that Logan had been shot. He was taken to the hospital where he later died. The suspect managed to escape before police arrived, OPP stated.

A neighbor mentioned to CBC that the home where police responded was known as a “problem house.” Another neighbor described it as a “frequent drug area.”

The family of Logan could not be reached for comment.

An online obituary states that they are heartbroken over his passing and that he was “much loved.”

The obituary mentions that any donations made in his memory to Ontario Addiction Treatment Centres will be “gratefully acknowledged by the family.”

OPP spokesperson Erin Cranton said Tuesday that the investigation into this fatal shooting is still ongoing. Const. Brianna Roberge later confirmed there are currently no suspects in custody.>
