Goldie, Herbert Charles
Herbert Charles Goldie passed away on Sunday, September 14, 2025, at the age of 90 in Ross Memorial Hospital in Lindsay, Ontario. He was born on March 26, 1936, in Toronto, Ontario. Herb will always be loved and missed by his devoted wife of over 50 years, Kathy. He was a loving father to Stephen Goldie (Brenda) and Michael Goldie. His grandchildren Jessica, Kyle (Chloe), Scott (Sanja), Stuart (Lisa), and Jacob (Jess) adored him. As a great-grandfather, he cherished Keira, Kaitlyn, Addison, Zoey, Callen, and Tatum. Herb’s extended family Jim, Shireen, Lorne, Anne and Jack will miss him dearly. He also leaves behind Lynn and Gavin (Hailey), Sydney along with good friend John. Herb had a rich life filled with various interests and activities. Sports were a big part of his life-he excelled as an athlete in high school basketball and pole vaulting. Coaching hockey teams like Brock Minor Hockey kept his love for sports alive throughout his life. In education he served as a teacher, District Consultant for the Toronto Board School Board, Coordinator for Gifted Programs and Principal. His passion for genetics led him to become an owner and breeder of Thoroughbreds and Quarter Horses as well as cattle and sheep. One highlight was winning double Sovereign Awards with Champion Sprinter Scotzanna in 1995. With Simmental cattle he partnered up to send eight polled heifers to Denmark for breeding back in 1999. He also showcased both horses and cattle at The Royal where he enjoyed numerous wins. Additionally, Herb applied his knowledge of genetics to gardening where he grew over 60 different tomato varieties. He took great joy in watching his great-grandchildren embark on their own adventures in life. The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude for the compassionate care given by the doctors and nurses at Ross Memorial Hospital during this time. As per Herb’s wishes cremation has already taken place. A Celebration of Life is planned for Sunday, October 19, 2025 from 1:00 – 4:00 pm at the Sunderland Royal Canadian Legion located at 104 River Street in Sunderland Ontario.
