The Chatham Maroons managed to secure a single victory during their weekend games.

On Saturday, they faced off against the Sugar Kings in Elmira and won 5-3.

Just over seven minutes into the game, the Maroons took a 2-0 lead. Ewan Mc Chesney netted his 17th goal of the season with assists from Jason Harding and Jaxon Priddle, followed by Dylan Richter scoring his ninth goal from Xandre Aitken and Bo Doxtator.

Elmira fought back and tied the game before the intermission with two goals scored in quick succession.

Aidan Edwards put the Maroons back in front during the second period with his 10th goal, assisted solely by Santiago Jimenes.

Richter added to their lead in the third period with his second goal of the night, thanks to assists from Carter Chadwick and Ian Lachance.

The final goal for the Maroons was scored by Matthew Crawford, marking his first career Greater Ontario Hockey League (GOHL) goal.

Samuel Di Blasi had an impressive performance, making 32 saves for this win.

The next day, however, the Maroons were unable to carry that momentum forward as they lost at home 6-5 in overtime against the St. Thomas Stars.

Trevor Zanutto kicked things off with a score-his 26th of the season-with help from Mc Chesney and Carter Kucher.

The Stars quickly equalized before Aitken scored again-his sixth of the year-with assistance from Crawford and Doxtator.

St. Thomas then surged ahead with three consecutive goals. Aydan Doyle brought the Maroons back within one with an unassisted seventh goal.

Early in the third period, St. Thomas got their fifth goal. However, Chadwick responded for Chatham with two goals that tied it up; he received assists on his 20th from Richter and Zanutto while Lachance assisted on Chadwick’s subsequent 21st goal.

It only took St. Thomas less than two minutes into overtime to find a winner through Eloan Le Gallic’s stick.

Di Blasi recorded 40 saves despite taking this loss.

The Maroons are scheduled to play again on January 23 when they visit St. Thomas once more.
