It’s always a good time to start dreaming about sunshine, sand, and warmer days.

Can you believe it? Today marks just 100 days until the unofficial start of summer – the Victoria Day long weekend, and with that comes some great news for one of the towns in our area.

What many visitors to the world’s longest freshwater beach have known all along is now being officially confirmed.

Lonely Planet, one of the top travel experts globally, has named Wasaga Beach as the best beach for swimming in Canada.

On top of that, Wasaga Beach also made it onto the list of Canada’s Top 10 Beaches.

This recognition highlights the beach along Georgian Bay for its warm, shallow waters, vast shoreline, and enjoyable summer atmosphere.

As this popular town gears up for a busy summer season, Mayor Brian Smith shares that this honor shows how Wasaga Beach is a prime travel destination.

“For over 100 years, Wasaga Beach has been Ontario’s summer playground,” said Smith. “This latest recognition confirms what millions of visitors and Wasaga Beach residents have known for generations. There’s no better place in Canada to swim, have fun, relax and make lifelong memories than Wasaga Beach.”

The town is not just excited about welcoming tourists back to the beach; it’s also experiencing growth and change within the community.

Instead of being a one-season spot, there’s a vision to turn Wasaga Beach into a four-season destination filled with year-round activities that focus on nature.

Some planned projects include launching Destination Wasaga, revamping Beach Area 1 and revitalizing Nancy Island Historic Site, which commemorates events from the War of 1812.

These projects are backed by a $38 million investment from the provincial government.

To support this vision for a year-round tourist hub, plans are underway for a Marriott hotel and new residential developments in town.

Additionally, more festivals and events like the annual Memories of Summer concerts are set to attract even more visitors.

The Town plans to unveil its festival and event lineup for 2026 in March.
