Police reported that one driver was taken to the hospital with what they described as “unknown injuries.”

ENGLISH RIVER – Authorities have confirmed that a person was transported to the hospital following an accident that closed Highway 17 west of Thunder Bay.

The police were alerted about the crash involving two transport trucks at around 10:30 a. m. CT on the Trans-Canada, approximately seven kilometres east of English River, Const. Hayley Cheater informed Newswatch.

According to Ontario 511, the Trans-Canada has been blocked off between Shabaqua Corners and Ignace. The provincial police shared on social media that officers responded to a “serious collision.”

So far, she noted, one of the drivers has been taken to the hospital with unknown injuries.

Officers remained at the scene Wednesday afternoon.

No information is available yet regarding how long the highway will remain closed.

“Please avoid the area,” police mentioned in their social media update, adding that more information will be provided soon.

This story will be updated as additional details emerge.
