Background Information

The previous municipal election took place on October 24, 2022. A by-election was held on June 10, 2024 for Mayor and Ward 5 Councillor positions.

In Ontario’s system, municipal elections are conducted every four years where voters elect mayors alongside city/regional councillors and school board trustees. If someone vacates their position prior to another election cycle a by-election occurs.

The rules governing all municipal and school board elections within Ontario are established by the Municipal Elections Act from1996. In Mississauga specifically it is the responsibility of the City Clerk to manage these elections according to this Act.
