Kitchener Fire crews had a hectic Tuesday with two separate fires occurring on opposite sides of the city.

Just before 5 p. m., firefighters responded to a house fire on Oldfield Drive close to Ottawa Street North and Lackner Boulevard.

The blaze caused approximately $300,000 in damages, reportedly starting in the attached garage of a single-family backsplit home.

Before the team could put out the flames, they spread into the attic as well.

Two individuals sustained minor burns and smoke inhalation. One was taken to the hospital for precautionary measures.

The incident is not being considered suspicious.

A little over an hour later, around 6:15 p. m., crews were dispatched to downtown Kitchener on King Street West.

An apartment fire on King between Queen and Ontario streets led to road closures as crews worked to ventilate the building due to heavy smoke at that time.

Six residents from the three-storey building were evacuated, with one person now displaced.

Officials indicated that the fire was confined to one unit, was deemed accidental, and is not viewed as suspicious.

No structural damage occurred to the building, with losses estimated at $50,000.
