With heavy hearts, the family of Catherine Dona Krueger shares the news of her passing on March 6, 2026.
Catherine was born on January 16, 1930, and was the middle child of Arthur and Delia Meyer. She met her husband, Ernest Krueger, at a hockey game, and they married in 1951. They later welcomed two children, Donna and David.
Catherine attended North Bay Normal School to pursue a career in teaching-a role she truly loved. She often reminisced about her students’ names and enjoyed running into them during her shopping trips.
Throughout her career as both a classroom teacher and a teacher/librarian for the Catholic school board, Catherine found joy in discovering new methods to assist her students. After retiring in 1989, she was surprised to realize she had spent more time retired than teaching. This gave her the chance to indulge her passion for travel-visiting places like Cocoa Beach, China, Europe, and the Caribbean. Reading was another favorite pastime of hers, especially with her book club.
Catherine is survived by daughter Donna (Wolfgang) Gradner and son David (Johane) Krueger. She also leaves behind Derek Gradner (Andrea Lajoie); Ian Gradner (Rachel, Hunter, Faith); Amanda (Chad) Morningstar (Josh, Mackenzie, Garrett); Matthew Krueger; Justin Krueger; and Ryan Krueger (Ivy). As the matriarch of the Meyer family, she is remembered by her sister Theresa Mc Intyre; brother Hugh (Sylvia) Meyer; sister-in-law Berna Meyer; along with many nieces and nephews. She will be missed by many dear friends as well. Catherine was predeceased by her husband Ernest; parents Arthur and Delia Meyer; siblings Mary (Frank) Leonard, Father Francis (Bud) Meyer, Marguerite (William) Melita; Arthur J Meyer.
The family extends their gratitude to the staff at Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre’s 3A unit and Emergency department for their kind care during Catherine’s time there.
