The Chatham Maroons are just one win away from moving on to the second round of the Greater Ontario Hockey League (GOHL) playoffs.

They faced off against St. Thomas on Thursday in Game 3 of the best-of-seven series, with the Maroons coming out on top 7-4.

The first period was a close match, with each team scoring once. Trevor Zanutto netted the Maroons’ goal, marking his second of the playoffs. Dylan Richter and Ewan Mc Chesney provided assists.

Only one goal was scored during the second period. Ian Lachance gave the Maroons a slight edge with his second goal of the playoffs.

The third period exploded with a total of eight goals.

The first three goals came from the Maroons. Zanutto found the net twice, completing his hat-trick, while Aidan Edwards added another goal. Edwards also assisted on Zanutto’s third goal, and Mc Chesney, Jaxon Priddle, Josh Harding, Braeden Burke, and Carter Kucher each contributed an assist as well.

St. Thomas responded with two goals before Xandre Aitken sealed it with an empty-netter for his second playoff goal.

St. Thomas managed to score again before Edwards got his second of the game and third overall in this playoff series to finish off the scoring. Mc Chesney recorded the only assist on the Maroons’ seventh goal of the night.

Game 4 will take place Friday evening in St. Thomas, starting at 7:30 p. m.
