Since 2023, the issue of stolen vehicles has become increasingly alarming for people living in Mississauga and Brampton. With less than two weeks into 2026, this trend is showing no signs of stopping, as more than 50 thefts have already been reported to law enforcement.

RELATED: 4,722 cars stolen in 2025 in Mississauga and Brampton, Ontario

From January 1 to January 10, Peel Regional Police data shows that a total of 70 vehicle thefts occurred across both cities – with 44 incidents in Mississauga and 26 in Brampton.

As of Saturday, one case of a stolen vehicle has been resolved, while investigations are ongoing for 68 others, and one remains unsolved. Among the stolen vehicles, there are 58 cars, one motorcycle, and 11 trucks.

The following map illustrates where auto thefts happened this month:

The data also highlights the top four hotspots for vehicle thefts in Peel region over the past ten days:

Brisdale Drive- 2 incidents City Centre Drive – 2 incidents Great Lakes Drive- 4 incidents Hurontario Street- 2 incidents

A closer look at car theft trends indicates that certain areas are more at risk than others. Local residents are encouraged to take extra precautions.

Peel police have shared useful tips to help prevent auto theft:

if possible, park your vehicle in a locked garage, as most stolen vehicles were taken from driveways. use a steering wheel lock. It will also serve as a visible deterrent. install a lock on the data port. This simple device can be bought online and prevents access to the computer port where thieves can reprogram the vehicle’s keys. consider purchasing a quality video surveillance system. Make sure cameras are properly positioned and working for both day and night use. Get familiar with the system so it can be reviewed quickly when needed.
