A man from Toronto has been arrested by the Hanover Police Service for using stolen credit cards to buy tires from several dealerships.
On February 25, a woman from Saskatchewan contacted Hanover Police claiming that her stolen credit card had been used that day to purchase eight new truck tires at a dealership in Hanover.
Investigators found out that the suspect had arranged the purchase over the phone and intended to pick up the tires later. On February 27, officers in plain clothes waited for him at the dealership and arrested the 27-year-old.
A search warrant executed on a U-Haul van rented by the suspect led to the recovery of eight more tires, which were confirmed to have been purchased with stolen credit cards and fake Ontario driver’s licenses from a dealership in Listowel and another one in Elmira.
The suspect was later held after his bail hearing and faced charges of fraud under $5000, unlawful use of a credit card, and possession of property obtained through crime.
This investigation is still ongoing as police are aware that this suspect and possibly others have committed similar offenses elsewhere in Ontario.
