A five-year-old child lost their life over the weekend following an ATV accident in Renfrew County, according to the Ontario Provincial Police.

Emergency services were called to a private property in Brudenell, Lyndoch, and Raglan township on Saturday morning, as reported by the OPP on Monday.

When responders arrived, they found that the child, who was wearing a helmet, had been operating a tracked ATV alone when it crashed into a tree.

The child was transported by ambulance to a nearby hospital and later airlifted to a regional trauma center where they succumbed to their injuries, the release stated.

The OPP did not disclose the child’s gender or provide additional information in their announcement.

A post-mortem has been arranged and an investigation is currently ongoing.
