A Canadian couple is facing legal trouble after neighbors complained about a large swastika cut into their front yard.
The Nazi symbol reportedly appeared around September 11, as reported by the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC). It seems the swastika was removed in recent days following another mowing.
Residents in St. Thomas, Ontario said they witnessed the homeowner creating the symbol over a week ago. The couple, Timothy Van Sickle, 37, and Julia Majkutewicz, 40, now face charges such as public incitement of hatred and criminal harassment.
According to CBC, one of the homeowner’s Facebook accounts also showed pro-Nazi views. That account was deleted over the weekend.
Property records indicate that the couple bought their home in November last year. Since then, they have put up several “no trespassing signs” and other warnings to keep unwanted visitors away, according to CTV.
Neighbors told the news outlet that for months they’ve been “going through hell” with antisemitic shouting and loud music coming from the house.
St. Thomas is located about 200 miles west of Buffalo.
