The province’s police watchdog has announced an investigation following the shooting death of a 44-year-old man by police in Mississauga.
According to the Special Investigations Unit, officers were dispatched after a woman informed them that her husband had left their home armed with a gun after a domestic dispute.
Peel Regional Police say they found the man near Perran Drive and Paula Court.
The watchdog reported that there was an exchange of gunfire between four officers and the man, who sustained multiple gunshot wounds.
The man was declared dead at the scene.
The watchdog activates its mandate for incidents involving police that lead to serious injuries, fatalities, allegations of sexual assault, or when an officer fires their weapon at someone.
