The Oshawa Power Group of Companies, which is entirely owned by the City of Oshawa, will see a new leader stepping in on January 1. Robert Watson will take over as Chair of the Board, succeeding Denise Carpenter.

Watson has been a director and has held roles such as Chair of the Human Resources and Governance Committee and Vice Chair of the Board since 2018. He brings a wealth of experience from various regulated industries.

A graduate from Ryerson University (now Toronto Metropolitan University), Watson has served as CEO for organizations like the Information Technology Association and the Bermuda Regulatory Authority, along with positions at Sask Power and Sask Tel.

Carpenter became part of the Board in 2014 and was named Chair in 2018. She also stepped in as acting CEO in 2022, guiding the company until a permanent replacement was found.

The Oshawa Power Group plans to move from its downtown location-where it has been since 1931-and will centralize all operational, administrative, and storage functions into one site spanning 6.5 acres at 2072 Thornton Rd. N., just north of Conlin Road in Thornton Business Park, by 2027.
