A man has died following a tent fire in a wooded area in St. Catharines, Ont.

According to Niagara regional police, officers were on patrol around 3:15 a. m. Tuesday when they came across a “large active fire involving a tent” at Mountain Locks Park, along Merritt Trail.

St. Catharines Fire Services responded quickly and put out the fire, but unfortunately, the tent had already been “consumed by fire,” stated St. Catharines deputy fire chief Trevor Parker.

The criminal investigative branch of Niagara Regional Police Service and the Ontario fire marshal’s office are both looking into this incident, as mentioned by police.
