Leanne Susan Isabelle Calder, age 71, from Thunder Bay, Ontario, passed away unexpectedly on March 11, 2026. She was born on February 7, 1955, in Fort Frances, Ontario. Leanne’s life was marked by creativity, compassion, and a strong spiritual bond with the world around her. People will remember her as a warm and generous person whose presence offered comfort and kindness to many.
Leanne was the daughter of Gordon Calder and Jackie Garriock. She spent her childhood in Northwestern Ontario. From an early age, she displayed a caring spirit and an imaginative mind that stayed with her throughout her life.
In her professional journey, Leanne worked as a legal clinic assistant where she assisted numerous individuals during challenging times with patience and understanding. Later on, she found fulfillment as a professional organizer, helping others create order and tranquility in their homes and lives. She had a special talent for recognizing beauty and potential where others might not see it.
Leanne had a profound spiritual side; she approached life thoughtfully and reflectively. Those close to her often described her as wonderfully quirky-someone who embraced uniqueness and lived authentically.
One of Leanne’s greatest loves was creativity. She enjoyed crafting and had an exceptional skill for crocheting lovely blankets and dishcloths. Each item she crafted was made with care and affection-often gifted to family members or friends. These handmade creations will serve as lasting mementos of her giving nature.
Above all else, Leanne was recognized for her loving disposition. Her warm presence made everyone feel welcomed, understood, and valued. Through conversations or thoughtful gifts made by hand, she knew how to make people feel special.
She is survived by her daughters Treena (Warren) Smith and Amanda Burns; along with her adored grandchildren Nathan Kruskowski and Holden Pintwala who filled her life with joy.
She was predeceased by former husband Phil Burns; father Gordon (Charlotte) Calder; mother Jackie Garriock (Bill); brothers Vincent, Kevin, Kelly; sister Carla Stewart.
Leanne will be greatly missed by her siblings and extended family: Roz (Artie), Pamela (Patrick) Colfer, John (Robyn), Charlene, Valley (Missy), along with numerous nieces, nephews, and friends whose lives were enriched by knowing her.
Leanne leaves behind a wonderful memory of kindness and generosity. Her warmth and unique outlook on life will remain in the hearts of all who loved her.
A celebration of Leanne’s life is planned for later this year when family members and friends can gather to honor the beautiful life she led.
Though she’s no longer here among us physically, Leanne’s love through handmade gifts and shared memories will continue to resonate in the hearts of those left behind.
A Poem in Her Memory
Perhaps they are not stars in the sky,
but rather openings where our loved ones shine down
to let us know they are happy. Condolences may be made through www. nwfainc. com.
