What’s open on Canada Day:
Pickering Town Centre will be closed, but its stand-alone restaurants (with patios), like Moxies, Jack Astor’s, Pickle Barrel and East Side Mario’s, will be operating. Oshawa Centre stores will also be closed; however, restaurants with street-facing entrances (and patios), such as Baxter’s Landing, Kelsey’s and The Keg, will be open. Most Beer Stores will not open their doors; still, four locations will welcome customers from 11 a. m. to 6 p. m. Ajax 75 Kingston Rd E Oshawa 200 Ritson Rd N Pickering 1355 Kingston Road Whitby 3950 Brock St. N Wine Rack at the Independent Grocery outlet located at 1893 Scugog Street in Port Perry will be open. The Independent Grocery store itself will also operate from 8 a. m. to 6 p. m. Shopper’s Drug Mart outlets will remain open. Most other drugstores should also be accessible. Many restaurants that usually operate on holidays will be serving customers, particularly those with patio dining; it’s best to call ahead to confirm. Pickering Casino, Ajax Casino and Great Blue Heron in Scugog are all set to welcome visitors. Most cannabis dispensaries Several craft beer breweries are planning to stay open too-Town Brewery in Whitby and Old Flame in Port Perry are two examples. Some may have shorter hours; it’s wise to check if your preferred brewery is available. Lakeview Park Beach in Oshawa is expected to welcome guests (lifeguards on duty), along with most other public beaches. Camp Samac outdoor pool in Oshawa as well as Ajax Memorial outdoor pool and Orono Park pool are both anticipated to be operational too. Parks and most splash pads are likely going to remain available for fun activities. Fireworks
There’ll be official fireworks displays at various locations including Oshawa (Lakeview Park); Ajax Downs; Pickering (Kinsmen Park); Port Perry (Palmer Park), Whitby (Victoria Fields), Uxbridge (Elgin Park) and Bowmanville (Garnett Rickard Recreation Complex).
Residents can buy fireworks for personal celebrations across each municipality since permits aren’t required for Canada Day.
