February 16, 1958 – March 5, 2026
Lori passed away peacefully at the Sault Area Hospital, surrounded by her loving family.
She is survived by many friends who loved her, a family that treasured her, and her constant companion, Maggie. Born to Bud and Isabel Nelson in Wawa, Ontario, Lori studied at Confederation College (Thunder Bay) and spent most of her life in Sault Ste Marie. Her sister Joni Nelson (Tony De Agazio), along with family and friends will miss her dearly. She was a proud Auntie to Ellen De Agazio (Karter Morrison), Benjamin De Agazio, Josh De Agazio, and Nicole De Agazio (TJ Boucher). She was also a beloved niece to Lynn Mac Aulay (Gord Pearce) and Doug Mac Aulay (Christine Ljungkull). Her dear friends included Cindy Paluzzi (Aldo) and cousins Shelley Nelson (John Pozzo) and Shelleen Nelson (Peter Cumming).
Before retiring, Lori worked for many years at the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Commission (OLG). She was known for being kind-hearted and thoughtful, always expressing herself in a unique way. Outgoing by nature, she formed friendships easily-from lifelong bonds with schoolmates to adventures with the ‘Lottery Gang’. As a caring neighbor, she would often share baked goods or clear multiple driveways at once. Her generosity extended to her time, attention, and affection.
Lori had a deep love for her family and truly excelled as an ‘Auntie’. The happiest moments were when everyone gathered together in Thunder Bay, Sudbury, or the Soo. Those visits were always filled with laughter, love, and often some shopping.
People will remember Lori for her sense of humor, big heart, fierce love for family and friends, and how she brightened our lives simply by being here.
A heartfelt thank you goes out to the nurses at SAH-ICU and 3C for their compassion and care; also to the residents and staff at Chartwell Collegiate Heights-Lori flourished during her time there as part of your community.
At Lori’s request cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Life will be held later on. She will be laid to rest alongside her parents in Woodland Cemetery in Wawa. Memorial donations (payable by cheque or online) can be made to the Sault Ste Marie Humane Society. Funeral arrangements are handled by Arthur Funeral Home-Barton and Kiteley Chapel (492 Wellington Street East) 705-759-2522.
