A resident of Perth is facing several charges after trying to evade the police.
This incident took place on Oct. 31 at around 10:30 a. m. An officer from the Lanark County Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) was patrolling Port Elmsley Road when he noticed a vehicle that appeared suspicious.
According to a police press release, the officer tried to pull over the vehicle, but it sped away quickly. The responding officer noted that the pick-up truck was being driven “erratically.”
The officer chose not to chase after the car due to safety concerns but informed other officers nearby.
The vehicle was seen multiple times before a spike belt could be deployed to bring it to a safe stop. Authorities later found the truck abandoned shortly after.
The OPP Canine Unit was called in for assistance. The suspect was eventually discovered hiding in a field.
Ridge Michael, a 35-year-old man from Perth, now faces these charges:
Dangerous operation of a vehicle; Flight from a peace officer; Two counts of driving while under suspension; Driving with liquor readily available; Driving a vehicle failing to display two licence plates; Using a plate not authorized for a vehicle; and Two counts of failure to comply with an undertaking.
