Guelph – The City of Guelph has given the green light for Phase 1 of the Wyndham Street Reconstruction project, awarding it to Steed and Evans Ltd. for a total of $24 million. This project aims to improve underground infrastructure and promote growth in the downtown area.
A tender was sent out to a group of pre-qualified contractors.
Steed and Evans Ltd. put forward the lowest compliant bid, ensuring that the project stays within budget. The company has successfully completed several major projects in the city, including Baker Street reconstruction, College Avenue infrastructure upgrades phase 1, Silvercreek Parkway reconstruction phase 1, and Metcalfe Street reconstruction phase 2.
The city will be hosting a Construction Information Fair on March 25 at Guelph City Hall, providing an opportunity to meet with project staff and get details about upcoming work.
“This phase is one of the most complicated of our Downtown Infrastructure Renewal Program,” said Terry Gayman. “It’s a key step in providing housing-enabling infrastructure and creating a vibrant downtown.”
Construction is set to start on March 30, with Wyndham Street closures from Wellington Street East to just south of Macdonell Street. The closure could extend to Cork Street depending on Alectra’s utility relocation schedule. Closures along Wyndham Street towards Quebec Street are expected in late April or early May. Macdonell Street will stay open except for one four-week period during the summer.
Before city construction begins, Alectra Utilities, Rogers Communications, and Enbridge Gas will replace their infrastructure along Wyndham Street.
