Police report that the investigation into the death of a 10-year-old child in Barrie is still active, as neighbors react to the shocking events that unfolded on New Year’s Eve.

According to Barrie Police, they were called for a wellness check at a residence on Bayview Avenue near Little Avenue around 3 p. m. on Wednesday and discovered the deceased child inside the home.

Police declined ’s request for comment on Thursday.

“At 11:30 last night, the body bag came out, unfortunately, we saw that,” Paul Carey, who lives nearby, told on Thursday.

Carey said he noticed a police car parked outside his neighbor’s house on Wednesday evening. He observed as officers forced their way inside by breaking down the door.

“They found the son deceased,” he stated. “The mother came out in an ambulance; she didn’t look very good but she was still alive,” Carey said, adding that she appeared “out of it” while paramedics assisted her.

“He was a lot of fun; I made him chocolate chip cookies. I was his favorite.”

Barber also noted that she and the child’s mother had attended church together on Christmas Day.
