On Friday, Perth-Wellington MPP Matthew Rae and Huron-Bruce MPP Lisa Thompson revealed that the Huron-Perth Children’s Aid Society will receive $100,000 in funding.
This funding is being provided by the Ontario Trillium Foundation, as announced by Rae and Thompson at the office of the Huron Perth Children’s Aid Society in Stratford.
According to a joint statement from their offices, this money will “help create accessible, evidence-based training for child welfare professionals, educators, healthcare providers, and law enforcement to address human trafficking in the region.”
“Protecting vulnerable children and youth is a responsibility we all share,” said Rae. “Our government is investing $100,000 through the Ontario Trillium Foundation to support the Huron-Perth Children’s Aid Society in equipping frontline professionals with the knowledge and tools they need to better identify and respond to human trafficking in our region. I want to thank the Society’s dedicated team for their continued work to protect young people and support families. Together, we are helping build safer communities and better protect children and youth across our region.”
As stated in their announcement, funding from the Ontario Trillium Foundation supported nearly $107 million into 746 community projects over the last year.
“Protecting vulnerable youth and ensuring they have access to the right supports is essential to building safer, healthier communities across Huron-Perth and beyond,” added Thompson. “This investment will help strengthen collaboration between child welfare professionals and community partners, equipping those on the front lines with the knowledge and resources they need to recognize the signs of human trafficking and digital exploitation, respond effectively, and connect young people with appropriate supports. By taking a proactive, community-based approach, we can help prevent exploitation and ensure young people feel safe and supported in their communities.”
