A fire broke out at a recycling center north of London, Ont., sending thick black smoke into the sky on Tuesday afternoon.

Multiple fire crews responded to the incident at a recycling facility in Arva, leading to Clarke Road being closed between Sunningdale and Medway Roads.

Middlesex County OPP reported that the road was reopened at 4:55 p. m. on Tuesday.

Black smoke can be seen from London Fire Department’s Fire Station 1 from the scene of a fire at a recycling centre roughly 10 kilometres northeast of the station. (London Fire Department)

Firefighters from Middlesex Centre were first called out after 12:30 p. m.

The heavy smoke led officials from the London Fire Department to ask residents in the city not to call 911.

Not many details have been shared, but London Fire mentioned that they started assisting with the blaze in Arva just after 1 p. m., dispatching LFD Tanker 15 and Engine 10 to help out.

OPP stated that firefighters from Granton, Arva, Bryanston, and Ilderton also joined in responding to the fire.

No injuries have been reported so far.
