Members of the Waterloo Region council have been re-elected following Monday’s municipal election.
Some councillors had very close races, like Waterloo councillor Chantal Huinink, who won by just three votes over Chris Moser, who finished third.
In Kitchener, Colleen James secured the highest vote count among all regional councillors with 20,929 votes, representing 18.05 percent of all municipal votes.
Doug Craig received 16,840 votes in Cambridge, which accounted for 35.2 percent of the total. Pam Wolf was also elected from the same city with 15,255 votes, making up 31.9 percent of all votes.

Regional chair yet to be appointed
A regional chair has not been appointed yet. In this municipal election cycle, the regional chair will be assigned rather than elected.
Ontario’s Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing Rob Flack confirmed that an elected mayor could also take on the role of regional chair.
“Legally they can serve both roles, yes, but I have no comment as to whether one will be that or not because we’re in the middle of our due diligence on hiring who it will be or not be,” Flack said during an announcement in Guelph earlier this month.
The search for the next regional chairs is still ongoing, according to Flack.
“We’ve have had extensive applications in all eight regions, including Waterloo,” he stated. “We’re conducting a ministry-led hiring process. We’re in the middle of interviews.”
Flack mentioned that his office would announce who all the chairs will be after Monday’s municipal election concluded.
