Two individuals were pronounced dead at the scene after their vehicle was involved in a three-car collision in Brock Township on Tuesday morning.
Officers from the Whitby Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police arrived at the site of an accident involving a dump truck with a pup trailer, a pickup truck, and a passenger car on Highway 12 near the junction with Regional Road 12, just north of Sunderland.
The unfortunate crash occurred just before 7 a. m.
As a result of the incident, two people in the passenger vehicle-a 30-year-old woman from Sutton Township and a 33-year-old man from Kawartha Lakes-were declared dead at the scene. The driver of the dump truck and those in the pickup truck were transported to a local hospital with minor injuries.
Highway 12 between Regional Road 12 and Concession Road 11 has been closed for most of the day as investigators look into the matter. Members of the Highway Safety Division Traffic Incident Management Enforcement team, including Technical Collision Investigators and a Collision Reconstructionist, are supporting this investigation.
If anyone witnessed this collision or has dashcam or surveillance footage from that area around that time, they are encouraged to reach out to Whitby OPP at 1-888-310-1122.
This tragic event took place exactly three days and two concession roads away from another three-car accident where one driver lost their life.
Whitby OPP officers responded to that earlier incident on Highway 12, north of Brock Concession Road 10 in Brock Township, shortly before 7 a. m. on Saturday (Oct. 24).
Police reported that one driver, a 23-year-old from Sunderland who was alone in their vehicle, was pronounced dead at that scene.
Two others involved sustained injuries.
