The Ward Races

Wards 1 and 5

A total of eight candidates were attempting to unseat incumbent City Coun. Rowena Santos. Among them were Tracy Pepe and Staceyann Brooks who both ran against Santos in last year’s municipal election.

The seat held by Regional Coun. Paul Vicente faced competition from three challengers – school advocate Idris Orughu, Steven Lee who had previously run against Santos in last year’s election with only a small percentage of votes (6.25 percent), along with Pooja Walia.

Wards 2 and 6

In her bid for re-election, City Coun. Navjit Kaur Brar faced eight opponents-the highest number among all wards this year. She’s entering her second term after transitioning into politics from a career in healthcare.

Regional Coun. Michael Palleschi was first elected back in 2014-he’s also known as the son of late former Coun. Paul Palleschi-and he faced six challengers this time around.

Ward 3 and 4

This election cycle sees City Coun. Keenan seeking another term after his initial one while facing off against five other candidates. Meanwhile, Regional Coun. Martin Medeiros had three competitors looking to take his council seat away from him.

Wards 7 and 8

The race became more complicated when Regional Coun. Pat Fortini withdrew his candidacy just before deadline day while Rod Power transitioned from being a city councillor to regional councillor replacing Fortini amidst five other contenders aiming for seats on council too.

The contest within these wards saw Township of Southgate Coun. Monica Singh Soares competing alongside businessman Rakesh Sharma plus strategic consultant Nayan Brahmbhatt along with Ali Khan and University of Toronto grad Ayanna Kahlon-the latter running under Conservative party colors ahead of an upcoming federal election set for Brampton Centre next year-Taran Chahal was also partaking here too!
