A group of students affected by the recent changes to OSAP from the Ontario government will hold a protest in St. Catharines this Saturday.
Angel Proulx, a mother of four and just four months away from graduating at Trillium College, is spearheading the event.
She claims that halting OSAP payments for private career colleges has put students in tough situations.
“Punishing all of our students is just not mathing. I’m doing 40 hours a week of unpaid placement, which most most of us in our courses are at right now, and on top of that, they want us to pay $1461 a month each to the college in order to make up for the OSAP pause and continue our education and graduate, so that itself doesn’t add up.”
She believes a few bad apples shouldn’t ruin it for everyone.
Proulx mentions that St. Catharines NDP MPP Jennie Stevens will address attendees at the peaceful protest taking place at Montebello Park on Saturday at noon.
This week, Ontario’s colleges and universities minister stated that the freeze on financial aid payments across all private post-secondary institutions will remain until at least next year.
