Mapleview Drive East reopened to traffic on Oct. 8, over six weeks earlier than planned, as work continues on a significant road and infrastructure upgrade project.
The road was initially set to reopen on Nov. 20. This closure was necessary for the replacement of a box culvert at Hewitt’s Creek.
Drivers should still be prepared for temporary lane closures, restrictions, and delays while crews finish the remaining tasks.
This project involves adding concrete center medians at the intersections of Royal Jubilee Drive/Lally Terrace and Chef Lane. After the medians are installed, both intersections will only allow right-in/right-out movements, which means no left turns in or out of Mapleview Drive East.
The larger Mapleview Drive East Transportation Improvements Project stretches from Yonge Street to Prince William Way and aims to support planned growth until 2031.
The work includes widening the road to four lanes, improving intersections, creating multi-use trails on both sides of the street, installing new storm and sanitary sewers, upgrading stormwater infrastructure, and adding street lighting.
Additionally, there will be traffic signal upgrades at Lily Drive, Kneeshaw Drive, and Royal Jubilee Drive along with enhancements at Yonge Street.
Primrose Contracting (Ontario) Inc. received the construction contract. The entire project was originally expected to take place from January 2026 through spring 2028.
The early reopening is specific to through traffic on Mapleview Drive East but does not indicate that all work has been completed.
