With just a week left until election night, a fresh poll indicates that former Mississauga mayor Bonnie Crombie is leading the pack among the four main candidates in the city’s mayoral contest.

A poll conducted by Toronto-based Mainstreet Research and released on Monday shows Crombie receiving support from 33.6 per cent of respondents, putting her ahead of Mississauga Ward 2 Coun. Alvin Tedjo, who has 28.4 per cent.

Current Mayor Carolyn Parrish came in third place in this poll with 26.2 per cent, while Mississauga Ward 7 Coun. Dipika Damerla trailed at 4.5 per cent.

The remaining 7.3 per cent of participants indicated they would vote for someone else.

This survey did not account for undecided voters, according to the pollster.

When factoring in the 18.5 per cent of undecided voters, the candidates’ standings were as follows: Crombie at 26.6 per cent, Tedjo at 23.8 per cent, Parrish at 21.2 per cent, and Damerla at 3.6 per cent, with an additional 6.4 per cent choosing “someone else.”

For its latest poll conducted on October 17-18 for Mississauga-based Y Media Group, which caters to the South Asian community, Mainstreet Research surveyed a sample of 942 adults living in Mississauga.

The polling was carried out using Interactive Voice Response technology and included participants reached via both landlines and cellphones.

The margin of error stands at +/- 3.2 percentage points, with a higher margin for subsamples as noted by Mainstreet.

Voters head to the polls on Oct. 26

Citizens in Mississauga and across Ontario will be voting in the municipal election on October 26.

With fierce competitors Parrish and her predecessor Crombie facing off again, political analysts have identified the Mississauga mayoral race as one of the most intriguing contests happening anywhere in Ontario.

Crombie stepped down from her role as Mississauga’s mayor in early 2024 after serving ten years to lead the Ontario Liberals and challenge Premier Doug Ford.

Parrish later won a byelection for mayor in June of that same year against contenders including Tedjo, Damerla, and Ward 1 Coun. Stephen Dasko.

The two prominent candidates have squared off before during an intense campaign prior to the next municipal election set for six years later; notably when Crombie defeated Parrish (2,479 votes to Parrish’s tally of 2,239) during a September byelection for Ward 5 council seat back in September of2011.

Lately observers have noticed that Tedjo seems to have picked up extra support; however whether this boosts him into a competitive three-way race on election night remains uncertain.

Earlier polls also show tight mayoral competition in Mississauga

Mainstreet Research’s earlier poll regarding the Mississauga mayoral race released on October 3 showed candidates positioned as follows: Crombie with 30.4 percent support; Parrish with 27.6 percent; Tedjo with 20.5 percent; and Damerla holding 10.4 percent.
Mainstreet president and CEO Quito Maggi commented then that “the Mississauga mayoral race is the most heated race we will see in 2026.” p>

This week Maggi reiterated that “the contest within Missis sauga will be particularly noteworthy” when ballots are cast next week.

“Crombie continues to lead narrowly-her edge among older voters appears stronger which could benefit her come election day,” added Maggi. “As we approach election day with many undecided still out there, this remains anyone’s game considering all three frontrunners.” p >
