A 16-year-old boy, who suffered serious injuries in a fiery accident in north Whitby last month, has been charged with dangerous driving and stunt driving following an investigation by Durham Police.
The driver was airlifted by Air Ornge to a trauma center in Toronto after the single-vehicle crash on Duffs Road on June 11. His condition was later reported as stable.
A 17-year-old passenger in the vehicle was taken to a nearby hospital with minor injuries.
According to police, an Audi sedan was heading north on Duffs Road, just south of Townline Road, at around 8:30 p. m. on June 11 when the driver lost control, veered off the road, and ignited. Officers arrived and found two occupants still inside the car.
After their investigation, members of the Collision Investigation Unit arrested the Audi driver and filed charges against him.
He has since been released on an Undertaking.
