A man suffered serious injuries after being hit by a vehicle east of Shakespeare on Thursday.
Perth County Ontario Provincial Police were called to the scene of a serious pedestrian accident on Line 34 (Highway 7/8), located between Road 104 and Road 106 at around 4:20 p. m.
Officers discovered a 65-year-old resident of Kitchener who had been struck by a vehicle that went through a road closure barrier set up due to an earlier incident.
The injured person was transported to Stratford General Hospital for medical care.
The area remained closed off to traffic for several hours.
Authorities indicated that updates regarding this ongoing investigation will be shared as they become available, and they encourage anyone who may have seen the incident or has security, doorbell, or dashcam footage to reach out at 1-888-310-1122.
Additionally, police mentioned there was another collision on Thursday night when a different vehicle drove around a road closure barrier at the opposite end of the street. Fortunately, no injuries were reported in that case.
“Drivers need to slow down and pay attention so that these unnecessary and preventable collisions are avoided,” OPP Sgt. Ed Sanchuk said in a video posted to social media. “Driving is a privilege, not a right. Each and every time you get behind the wheel, always make sure you put your safety as a priority, and always pay attention to your surroundings.”
