St. Thomas will get close to $20 million from Queen’s Park and Ottawa through a program designed to reduce development fees and help lower housing costs.

This funding, amounting to about $19.6 million, comes from the federal and provincial governments’ $8.8-billion initiative aimed at reducing development charges. The announcement was made on Thursday by Elgin-Middlesex-London MPP Rob Flack along with London West MP Arielle Kayabaga at the new Shaw Valley subdivision in the southwest area of St. Thomas.

Flack, who serves as Ontario’s municipal affairs and housing minister, described housing affordability as a “crisis” during his comments.
