A Republican group’s effort to support Maine Sen. Susan Collins went off course when its aired in Portland, Oregon – instead of Portland, Maine.
The ad, produced by Defending Main Street Super PAC Inc., focuses on Collins’ opponent, Democratic Senate nominee Troy Jackson, MS NOW reported. Titled “So Many Taxes,” the highlights Jackson’s tax policy record, claiming he has raised costs for residents in Maine.
Up to $25,000 was spent on running the ad in and around Portland, Oregon.
A spokesperson for Cross Screen Media, the ad buyer, told NBC News that the mix-up was “100 percent” their fault and that the funds had been refunded. The spokesperson mentioned that the company handles thousands of political campaigns.
Sarah Chamberlain, CEO of the Republican Main Street Partnership linked with Defending Main Street Super PAC Inc., said they removed the ad from airwaves after realizing this “ridiculous” mistake.

“The buyers made a mistake on one of the placements. It’s down now, and they’re running it in Portland, Maine,” she told NBC News. “It has nothing to do with us. I would never run an ad in Portland, Oregon for Susan Collins for Christ’s sake.”
Some users on social media found humor in this blunder.
“I’ve gotten 5 anti-Troy Jackson ads in the last 24 hours,” Oregon resident Lillian Belle wrote on X on Sunday. “I choose to believe they mixed up Portlands.”
“Say what you will but I guarantee that the GOP’s ad campaign will be wildly effective,” another X user chimed in. “Not one voter in Portland, Oregon is going to vote for Jackson.”
Polls indicate that Collins and Jackson are neck-and-neck just weeks ahead of Election Day.
