By Eric Bradner, CNN

Highland, Michigan (CNN) – After listening to Louisiana Sen. John Kennedy showcase his usual mix of clever sayings, exaggerated insults, and references from Talladega Nights during a press event on Friday, former Rep. Mike Rogers, the Republican Senate candidate from Michigan who was campaigning alongside Kennedy, realized his own comments wouldn’t steal the spotlight.

“It’s like following the baton twirler in the talent show,” Rogers said. “You know you’re never going to win that thing.”

Kennedy has taken his act on the road, joining GOP Senate nominees across several states in these final weeks leading up to this year’s midterm elections – with visits in Ohio on Thursday and Michigan on Friday. During these events, he repeatedly praised Rogers by saying he “pisses excellence.” The 74-year-old Kennedy admitted he’s “tired” but is still contemplating making another trip to Alaska and a visit to Texas, both crucial states for Senate races before Election Day.

This busy schedule could hint at a future presidential run. Kennedy mentioned he’s considering entering the race for the Republican nomination in 2028. He’ll need to make a decision soon after the midterms about whether to pursue a third Senate term or aim for the White House.

On Friday in Michigan, he told reporters that as he considers running for president, his main worry is “the goober factor.”

“If a bunch of goobers run, and I don’t think I can be effective in the Senate anymore, then I would consider it,” he said. “But right now, I’m running for reelection.”

When asked by CNN about how his vision differs from those so-called “goobers” aiming to lead the GOP compared to his own aspirations for the party’s direction?

“Let me tell you about goobers – and I’m not going to name goobers,” Kennedy stated. “Being a goober is a lot like pornography. It’s hard to define, but you know it when you see it.”

‘He’ll Need To Adjust His Image’

Later that night, Kennedy received loud applause and laughter during his speech at what Rogers’ campaign claimed was around 900 people attending a barn party in Highland – located in Oakland County, an affluent suburb of Detroit known for its swing-voter status.

However, conversations with attendees afterward revealed some challenges that might await the Louisiana senator if he tries translating what resonates with Washington audiences into success on the presidential campaign trail – where voters will expect him to demonstrate he isn’t just another “goober.”

Even some of Kennedy’s biggest fans at the barn gathering shared their doubts with CNN about whether his humor alone could drive a successful presidential campaign.

Jan Dillaha, a 64-year-old executive from Indian River who runs a manufacturing company expressed her fondness for Kennedy while recalling some favorite quotes from him. She noted that during Friday night’s speech he skipped one of her preferred phrases.

“He left out ‘hobo on a ham sandwich,’ which is my personal favorite,” she remarked.

But regarding 2028 prospects, Dillaha stated that Kennedy “would not be my first pick,” despite believing he’d make a good president.

“To be honest speaking there tonight most of what he said I’ve heard before,” she commented. “But over two years you can’t keep repeating yourself without people getting tired of it. So he’ll need to step up his game there.”

James Semerad, a 70-year-old retired Navy veteran living in Clarkston but previously hailing from Louisiana said that while Kennedy possesses “a unique way of saying stuff” connecting well with locals.

“He has great stage presence and charisma. He makes serious issues funny rather than just heavy,” Semerad observed. “He cleverly frames important points which encourages thoughtfulness. He’s genuinely funny but also quite smart.”

What are Semerad’s thoughts on having Kennedy run for president come 2028?

“He’ll have to change up his persona somewhat,” Semerad suggested; “to look more presidential.”

‘Kale Tastes Like I’d Rather Be Fat’

On Capitol Hill,, Kennedy often grabs headlines through sharp exchanges with witnesses during congressional hearings- though sometimes things backfire as seen last month when during an exchange with Missouri Sen. Eric Schmitt concerning misleading text messages; Schmitt confused sports teams instead of focusing on relevant facts related to their inquiry against former special counsel Jack Smith.

For all his homespun jokes inspired by movies-sometimes crude-Kennedy remains astute politically speaking. A former Democrat turned Republican since switching parties after witnessing massive losses back In2007 when serving as state treasurer , he’s been busy conducting polling research related key races this election season. p >Acknowledging challenges facing Republicans this fall , he noted :

“The cost of living is significant issue & it’s more than just dollars & cents ; i sense discontent among voters across all sides …its angry sentiments mixed melancholy feelings stemming lack engagement coming out Washington ”.

Kennedy put forth amusing comments supporting Rogers firstly whilst visiting manufacturing site Sterling Heights followed by their barn gathering later held ; sporting similar blue striped button down shirt coupled navy blazer quartz field watch attached blue yellow nylon strap yet changed charcoal trousers light brown penny loafers earlier dressed lighter-wash jeans cowboy boots instead. p >His nine-minute speech showcased various witty remarks illustrating why many appreciate catching glimpses television highlights congressional sessions interviews seen elsewhere news outlets alike. p >In describing anyone obstructing progress toward beneficial outcomes Michigan , he conveyed message journalists stating: ‘he will eat you up & spit bones floor’ further adding ‘he’ll beat like stole Christmas ‘. p >Kennedy alleged Democrats dominated by faction associated Hamas including opponents such as Abdul El-Sayed closely aligned figures like Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Bernie Sanders & city mayor Zohran Mamdani too. p >During preceding debate held Thursday evening , he stated,’Rogers ripped Dr. El-Sayed new ashtray’. p >
