Shelter in place advisories for Port Dover and Tillsonburg on Saturday concluded with arrests in both towns.

On Saturday afternoon, police in each area cordoned off streets and instructed residents to stay indoors.

Norfolk OPP made an arrest shortly after 9 p. m. related to a barricade situation on Main Street in Port Dover. A male suspect was taken into custody without incident, according to police.

Oxford OPP shared a social media update just before 11 p. m., confirming that a person had been apprehended without any issues. The post didn’t specify the details of the incident.

“OPP thanks members of the public for their patience and cooperation. No further info to be released at this time. Investigation ongoing,” said the post.

Police arrived at the scene in Port Dover around 3:45 p. m.

The section of Main Street between Alma and Clifford streets was shut down while residents were asked to shelter in place. By around 9 p. m., the road reopened and the advisory was lifted, though a strong police presence was expected to continue for several hours that night.

A social media update from Oxford OPP at 5:37 p. m. Saturday indicated there was heavy police activity in Tillsonburg near Broadway Street between Baldwin Street and Prospect Street.

An update at 8 p. m. confirmed that the heavy police presence remained, along with another advisory for the public.

“Please continue to stay away from the area and avoid picking up hitchhikers, as this investigation is ongoing. If you encounter an officer near this area, follow their directions,” said the social media post.

Nearly three hours later, police announced that an arrest had been made and that the increased presence on Broadway Street would be winding down.
