The provincial and federal governments are teaming up to invest over $203,000 to support steel and manufacturing workers in the Hamilton region.
This funding, part of the Canada-Ontario Workforce Tariff Response, aims to assist 75 workers and jobseekers in enhancing their skills for better job opportunities.
Recent job cuts at Stelco affect around 500 employees across both Hamilton and Lake Erie Works.
This targeted investment in Hamilton is a piece of a broader plan by the province to safeguard workers and vital industries from U. S. tariffs and economic challenges.
The Canada-Ontario Workforce Tariff Response was established to provide $228.8 million over three years aimed at helping workers in the softwood, lumber, steel, and automotive sectors. A portion of these funds is also designed for other industries hit by tariffs.

Through Skills Advance Ontario, the province will channel this funding to its partners-employers and training providers-to help facilitate transitions into high-demand jobs.
About 27,000 workers in Ontario are expected to benefit from this comprehensive response by acquiring new skills that will enable them to move into other expanding industries.
The provincial government mentions that training will be offered by Learning Connections Hamilton as part of its Skill Pathways for Work initiative.
This training program is set to provide participants with skill assessments, tailored training plans, digital skills upgrades, and more.
